COVID-19 Response

Camp Challenge is making some operational changes this year with the health and safety of our campers, staff, and their families in mind. These changes were informed by Indiana’s Back on Track reopening requirements and industry recommendations for day camps and food serving establishments, the Center for Disease Control’s Considerations for Child Care, School, and Youth Programs, the American Camping Association’s Field Guide for implementing CDC recommendations, and the Association of Camp Nursing’s Summer Camp Operations Guide. The very nature of overnight camp makes some of the recommendations difficult to perfectly implement, so be advised that campers will likely come into close physical contact with others. Our policies are intended to reduce, not eliminate, risk of viral transmission.

Our policies are still subject to revision as we receive recommendation updates from the state and/or the CDC. As we have developed these procedures, Camp Challenge staff have been practicing their implementation when possible to discover where we need tweaking and to test alternatives.

Additionally, Camp Challenge is in regular contact with our state health department inspector, county health department, and emergency management agency regarding our operating plans, and summer staff will be completing training with an Indianapolis-based nurse who is responsible for training other nurses and nursing home staff on COVID procedures.
